My First Mothers' Day (as a mom)
For Mothers' Day (I think it's technically Mother's Day, but I think Mothers' makes more sense...) Joel surprised me. :-) He was very sneaky and I was oblivious. He's had lots of papers to work on lately, and consequently many late nights. So, Saturday night after he made sure I went to bed (I looked rather sleepy...and was), he snuck out of the house and off to the grocery store where he bought ingredients and flowers (at least, I assume that's where he got the flowers...).
He had difficulty deciding between breakfast and a late brunch (the fact that the holiday is always on a Sunday making the latter more difficult) and had a menu made out for brunch, but decided on breakfast and the rest for lunch.
So, he woke me up Sunday morning and surprised me with these scrumptious pastries:

(which are scones with apricots and chocolate chips. YUMMY!)
With breakfast we also had sausage (one of my very favorite breakfast proteins). And the scones we ate with butter and red currant jelly. There were leftovers, but they didn't last too long...
The rest of the menu included savory crepes with fillings of spinach and eggs and a cheese sauce (which ended up being added into the eggs instead of made into a separate sauce as we last minute invited company over for lunch and felt a bit rushed).
Joel is great. :-)
Another highlight of the day was my dad calling me during his lunchbreak to tell me Happy Mothers' Day. :-)
I think it was nice to be able to celebrate with the baby still snug inside me.
